11:00 am-Wednesday February 22nd, 2012 

UPDATE:  Another 2-3 inches today. Over 5" the past two days. Groomers went out locally this AM. Reports of neighboring clubs sending theirs out as well. The new snow pattern is returning bringing the seasonal weather we expect. Time to set up that Visit to Lakewoods you've been planning.

TRAILS:

Conditions have improved greatly with the new snow. No reports yet on conditions but Namakagon Trail Groomers were out working this AM. Frozen SNIRT base now has a groomer packed surface. Expect trail conditions to be FAIR, likely a little icy under the packed snow after some traffic gets on it. Some areas, where wind blown, could be less favorable. Seasonal weather and a forecast which calls for daily snow through monday next week should make them GOOD or better real soon. Get your Track up here and enjoy them. 

As is typical, conditions change quickly with traffic and weather. Check locally for the best conditions and ask other riders what they've been seeing.  

LAKES:

Namakagon Stick Trail is UP!  Ice is in good condition with measured thickness averaging 16+ inches of ice. Ice is consistantly smooth and with little snow on them, fast. Use caution around bridges and areas where there are stream inlet/outlets on the lake as there may be areas of thin ice and open water.  The marked Stick Trail keeps you away from known hazards.  

*Ice is never completely safe, no matter the thickness.  Always check local lake conditions on any lake before you choose to travel on them and always be prepared to encounter thin ice.
