Cheese and beer may be at the forefront of what Wisconsin is known for, but an underrated attribute is the natural beauty of this state. Here at Lakewoods Resort, we are well aware of the awe-inspiring wilderness and take pride in providing our guests with opportunities for a quintessential Northern Wisconsin outdoor experience. Amongst the beauty to be found, there may be nothing quite as spellbinding as a waterfall. Whether it is the magnificent drops or the relaxing ambiance that a waterfall creates, they always offer timeless beauty. Here are some of the top spots for waterfalls in Northern Wisconsin that we recommend visiting during your next getaway to Lake Namakagon.

waterfalls in northern wisconsin (2)Potato Falls

Potato Falls sits in the southwest corner of quaint Gurney, Wisconsin. There are upper and lower falls at this secluded, backcountry hideaway, but if you only have time to see one we recommend the Lower Potato Falls. It soars with the height reaching over 50 feet tall. There are a few observation decks to see the falls, but you may have to travel off the beaten path to get a perfect view. We recommend walking along the Potato River’s edge by hopping from rock to rock where you’ll obtain a million-dollar vantage point (as seen above).

waterfalls in northern wisconsin (2)Copper Falls

The next waterfall is located in Copper Falls State Park. The park itself is one of the best in all of Wisconsin, featuring ancient lava flows and deep gorges. Though the state park is home to a second waterfall (Brownstone), we recommend Copper Falls because there are several vantage points to get a glimpse of it, including a trail that is accessible by wheelchairs. Your experience may depend on the water level, but seeing the river wind through the deep gorges from below is a sight to behold.

Lost Creek Falls

The furthest north of these waterfalls in Northern Wisconsin is Lost Creek Falls. Located in the woods southwest of Cornucopia, Wisconsin, the waterfall features an eight-foot drop with a few feet of cascades above and below. You are able to walk behind the falls, which is uncommon for waterfalls near vast Lake Superior. This mid-size spectacle will make you feel at peace with the soothing sound of the water hitting the rocks below.
