In addition to dairy and cheese, Wisconsin is known for its beautiful trees. From the early days of logging to the development of forest fire lookouts, our wooded areas have always been central to the state’s identity. The forests light up with crimson hues at summer’s end, so visit the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest to see our broad fall color palette. Lakewoods Resort’s location within the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest borders makes us one of the best resorts near Hayward, WI, and because we spend so much time among these trees, we can recommend the best ways to get outside and enjoy our state’s scenery.

Wisconsin ATV Trails

ATVing through the fall color palette

While horseback riding is a quiet way to be immersed in nature, ATV riding is fast, boisterous, and exciting. Lakewoods Resort is located directly along the public Wisconsin ATV trails, and we’re even listed as number 13 on the official visitor’s map. Just walk out our back door and directly into the wilderness for hours of fun! As you zip through the trees, keep an eye out for wildlife and take in the bright fall color palette. Don’t own an ATV? No problem! When you stay with us, you’re close enough to Hayward, WI, to have easy access to ATV rentals. Check out Runamuk Rides or visit Hayward Power Sports for rentals and guided tours. You might love it enough to return for snowmobiling in the winter.

Fall Color Palette from the Water

Although fall is just around the corner, we’ll still have some sweltering days before the first frost. Luckily, Lakewoods Resort is located right on Lake Namakagon, the tenth-largest lake in Wisconsin, with a private marina. You can bring your own boat and keep it at our docks or use one of our many watercraft rentals. While you float around on the sparkling water, you can gaze out at the fall color palette along our amber shores. It’s the perfect way to cool off during those hot fall days.
