4 Things to Pack for Winter Activities in Wisconsin

  1. Insulating Clothing: Packing insulated clothing is important for both safe and comfortable winter adventures in the Wisconsin Northwoods. In colder climates, hypothermia and frostbite pose serious risks. If you dress for the weather, though, there’s nothing quite like a winter adventure at Lakewoods Resort! Some examples of insulated clothing to pack include thermal base layers (top and bottom), insulated snow pants, mittens/gloves, sweaters/sweatshirts, and an insulated winter jacket.
  2. Headwear: Packing warm headgear is essential for keeping warm during your winter adventures in Wisconsin. Protect your head and ears with winter hats or ear muffs. You can protect your neck and face with a warm winter scarf or neck gaiter.
  3. Footwear: The key to preparing for a winter hike in the Wisconsin Northwoods is to pack warm, comfortable, and practical footwear. Pack plenty of warm socks, and make sure you change your socks immediately after they get wet to prevent trench foot. This is a condition that causes pain, redness, swelling, and numbness from your feet being in a wet and cold environment for an extended period of time. It’s also important to pack insulated and waterproof hiking boots to protect your feet from getting wet and warm from the cold weather.
  4. Fuel Yourself: Bring along water and snacks to stay hydrated and nourished during your winter activities. Despite the cold winter weather, you still need to stay hydrated and can work up an appetite exploring the Wisconsin Northwoods. Some great snacks to pack that will give you energy include nuts, dried fruit, energy bars, and trail mix. You can pack an insulated water bottle to stay hydrated.
