UPDATE:  Warm weather has softened the trails and the even with over 20" last Wednesday, there are areas where earth is starting to show.  Decent snowcover will continue over the weekend but trails will be soft with the forecast conditions.  Although snowmobiling in sunny 45F would seem like spring break!  There's still one weekend left as the long range forecast does not look promising.

TRAILS:

Conditions have improved greatly with over 20 inches of snow last week.  Everything was groomed after the Weenie Roast weekend and conditions were fantastic.  Warm weather the past two days has softened things up but snow covered trails will be the norm through the weekend. Get your Track up here to enjoy the last decent weekend of snowmobiling for the season. (unless we get another late season storm like last year) Forecast calls for warm sunny weather after an afternoon snowstorm tomorrow.

As is typical, conditions change quickly with traffic and weather. Check locally for the best conditions and ask other riders what they've been seeing.

LAKES:

Namakagon Stick Trail is UP!  Ice is in FAIR condition as things are softening up and water holes developing where melting conditions runs through into the lake. The Stick trail marks any hazards although conditions are a little rough due to the snow and the traffic over Weenie Roast weekend. As things have been melting the lake should also smooth up. Use caution around bridges and areas where there are stream inlet/outlets on the lake as areas of open water are developing.  Of course that also means water skipping has started as well.  Stay clear of the areas marked in front of the resort where springs are starting to flow.  They are marked with the crossed poles.  The Stick Trail keeps you away from known hazards.

*Ice is never completely safe, no matter the thickness.  Always check local lake conditions on any lake before you choose to travel on them and always be prepared to encounter thin ice.
